Hamilton’s Renoviction Bylaw Now Final and Binding After OLT Appeals Withdrawn – TPR Hamilton

The Ontario Land Tribunal issued formal notice today that Effort Trust Company Ltd. and Old Colony Properties Ltd. have withdrawn their consolidated appeal against Hamilton’s renoviction prevention bylaw.

The bylaw passed City Council in December 2024 and was formally enacted on January 22, 2025. Over the past year, the appellants and City officials held confidential conversations that led to the withdrawal.

The City of Hamilton has not yet issued any statements regarding the outcome of those negotiations.

The appeal never progressed beyond the notification stage and will not proceed to case management conference.

With no remaining appeals, bylaws 25-010 and 25-011 are now final and binding.
